You Always Get More Back
Notebook Fragments / June / Corfu, Greece
In the fast-paced environment around, one of the major factors in evaluating a personal investment is whether the resources spent on creative endeavors are worth it. Passion becomes accounting with balancing the books.Turns out, in the long run, I get a lot more back than initially planned, despite coming from the position of a demanding child asking the universe to give more. The equation of desires to what was given back is where rational math breaks.
Going out expecting to get a great photo, and ending up in a long conversation with a forensic photographer. A fresh perspective on how a camera can be a big burden on the soul in that career. Traveling to randomly find out an exhibition of a photographer you have just been learning about at home. Signing up for a workshop to absorb as much as possible, ending up learning a major portion from the participants that you did not expect to meet. Seeing partner’s joy of taking street photos along when having a dry day yourself.
I think a lot of events happening around photographic practice come in equations. On the days where a minus is given, there has to be an inner belief of future equation multiplication. A few months later, turns out the minus was needed to come back as a plus. The expectations within never guess what will be given or learned at the end of the day. No matter how good we are at life’s math. When you finally silence the demanding child within, the formula for this craft becomes simple. Lose the shot to find the personal sight.
